I value being a member of this list tremendously, the information you get
here can be astounding in it's depth and quality. I have been researching a
circumnavigation, and wondered if it would be helpful to create another list
dedicated to discussions specifically related to circumnavigations, or
crossing oceans. I realize that some on this list may think I'm being
elitist, but honestly, I'm just trying to get as smart as I can to make good
decisions.
Nordhavn hosts a list for owners, and there is significant discussion of
this type (at least that's what I'm told, but since I don't own one I can't
speak from experience). I thought creating a separate list here might help
focus the information, and be more specific to the issues faced by long
distance voyages in powerboats. Ken Williams tried to morph his site into a
forum on passagemaking, but without critical mass, it has really only served
as a platform to chat, exchange a neat photo or two, and advertise a boat
for sale. It's really sad when you realize how much momentum Ken created.
This will only work if there are enough people to contribute real
information, and have it take on a life of it's own. There is no reason it
should detract from this forum at all, as everyone knows that coastal
cruising is in fact harder than crossing oceans :)
And, no, I'm not considering a circumnavigation in a 31' Camano, I am
considering purchasing a vessel capable of such a voyage. Thanks, Scott.
