A year ago when we bought our President 41 to do the Great Loop we were also
convinced against a sundeck. Well somehow we ended up with one, although it's
a low sundeck, and let me tell you it's not at all bad for docking either
floating or fixed docks. We have a shear line LOWER than the famed Monk 36 and
ours is easier to board! The aft deck is far better for relaxing and
entertaining than the small cockpits. I guess our boat is a Motor Yacht style
but it has trawler economy with its' two 120hp Lehman Diesels. I have gotten
up to 3 mpg. I also tried for no teak decks and settled with the teak aft deck
which on ours is in great shape. The forward and side decks never had any
teak. Most of the water intrusion problems with teak decks is where water
pools on the side decks and generally that's above the fuel tanks. Yikes! Our
family built boats in WA and NC so I know a bit about what makes a good boat.
The Presidents were built in the Hershoff yard in Taiwan and are known to be
very high quality.

You could look at a lot of boats even to $130k and not find one as nice as
ours. Last Fall we looked for three months with three trips all over the
mid-Atlantic, Florida, and Gulf Coast. We even spent $8k doing it with the
rental cars and motels. It could be worth a bit of your time to give ours some
thought. It will probably be the best value you'll find.
