I figured I'd reply to the list as this is a frequently asked question about
Cavu. That is not a typo, she does indeed have an 18kw genset. She has a
factory installed optional electric get home motor that is run off the
genset. If the main should fail, you crank up the big ol' genny and flip a
breaker and viola you are making about 3-3.5 knots burning about 1/2gph.
This COULD also be used as a sort of very fuel efficient diesel-electric
hybrid system if you didnt mind going extremely slowly.
