And all knowledgeable mariners:
 
I have just removed the above unit from the Bamboo and have it on the bench  
in the shop.
When I apply 12V to the socket and insert the 4 pole plug, the hand  
programer lights up and shows 000 as the heading and the word "error" appears.  The 
module that I believe contains the fluxgate compass and other brains does  not 
light up in any way and the motor does not run or try to.
 
When you look at the 4 pin socket, with the detent @ noon, the red wire is  
to the right, the two bottom pins are wired black and the upper left pin is not 
 connected.
 
This was installed by a shoemaker and I have doubt if the original wiring  is 
correct.
 
If anyone is familiar with this unit and or know of a manuel or repair  shop, 
I would appreciate the info.
