[Sentoa] need chartplotter advice

My radar and chartplotter are 15 years old and are about to go.  I think I want a mullltiple display unit with chartplotter, radar, and depth sounder, but the more I look the more confused I get.  I'm looking at the garmin 4000 series. It looks like that if I am not careful, I could waste a bunch of money on stuff I think I want and don't need. I need lake charts in addition to the coastal charts.  
I tried loading seaclear II in my laptop, but it was not as simple to me as it is to Doug. 
So any advice on something that is idiot proof will be appreciated.
