That is the damnedest piece of shade tree engineering I've ever heard. (Assume he taped the vent, also.) No wonder we landed on the moon first. This guy have anything to do with that? I'm still shaking my head.

Perhaps this has been covered, but it not....! When I had a Dickenson Diesel range installed in one of my boats, the mechanic ran a fuel line from the lower part of the fuel tank directly to the stove pump. He drilled right into the nealy full tank! BUT, he first attached his shop-vac to the fuel filler plate on deck, jamming it in and then sealing the edge with duct tape. Do NOT do this with a gas tank...big boom! The shop vac created a small vacuum, so as his hole went into the fuel tank it sucked outside air in, rather than letting the fuel out. Worked fine. Are Diesel fumes explosive? I don't think so, as this demonstrated.
