I don't think it was a factory option, but it is a nice feature to have. I
installed a similar system on my tug, loved it, and used it nearly every
time I had a dockside water connection. My system was made up with a simple
female hose inlet fitting and an inexpensive brass check valve (a 3/4 inch
well pump check valve I got a Ace Hardware). It did not include a pressure
regulator valve in the boat. Instead I used a pressure regulator valve on
the shore end of my hose. This way your shore hose is protected from
possible high city water pressure. I don't think failure and sinking of your
boat it is anything to worry about - just turn the dock supply valve off
when you leave the boat!

Our tug had a city water inlet installed when we bought it, I thought it was
a factory option. It is a Shurflow with built in pressure regulator. We
use it all the time, but as several tuggers mentioned, don't leave the boat
with the water turned on (although we often forget to turn it off when
leaving for a couple hours). I like it because we don't need to keep a lot
water in the tank (saves fuel), saves hours on the pump, and it never runs
out.
