[Sentoa] Pilot House cabin top

Hi Kirk,

My GPS receivers are mounted on the pilot house roof but I do have an XM
Satellite receiver mounted in the overhead and it receives excellent
reception. I screwed down a piece of galvanized sheet metal as the puck has
a magnetic base and I thought the metal would add a "ground plain" for
better reception. Don't know if this had the desired effect or not.

I use a Microsoft GPS puck just laying on the helm in front of the forward
pilot house windows as a PC backup for the navigation systems. It gets good
reception too!

Subject: [Sentoa] Pilot House cabin top

After work today I am headed to the boat to begin the installation of my
new Garmin 4208 chartplotter. One of the mounting options for the GPS puck
is inside the cabin top. The installation instructions indicated that the
puck will get a satellite signal through fiberglass. What I am unsure of is
whether there is a plywood or other coring on or in the cabin top. Does
anyone know whether there is coring on the pilot house cabin top?

Also has anyone else mounted a puck inside- if so is there a loss of signal?

Thanks
