Stephen,

Congratulations on your new tug.

On our 37 we carried two 9.5' kayaks on the pilothouse (PH) roof. I
installed two Wischard "D" rings in the center of the PH roof, one in
front of the hatch and one in front of the stack. Each kayak sat
upright on two foam kayak storage blocks which you can buy at any
kayak store. We used kayak straps (also available from the kayak
store) to strap from the "D" rings to the SS railing that runs along
the side of the PH roof. Two straps for each kayak. We carried our
kayaks for thousands of mile in this manner and never had a problem.
It's an inexpensive solution and the materials are readily
available. We also carried a 13' tandem kayak in the same manner.

We had little trouble getting the kayaks on the roof, but it takes
two people. I made painters that were long enough to reach from the
waterline to above the boat deck railing. Tie them to the bow and
stern of the kayak and bring the kayak along side of the boat. With
both people on the boat deck, pull the kayak up with the painter,
hand over hand. The trick is for both people to be coordinated (and
strong) enough to keep the kayak level as it is being raised!
