[Sentoa] Dickenson Diesel range

Quite a few NT's came with a Dickenson Diesel range and oven.   Black iron top.  Any tips on cleaning it like new?   A sailboater said he used WD 40.   But you know how sailboaters lie!   Any tips on cleaning the range top greatly appreciated....thanks
