[Sentoa] Raymarine Fluxgate Compass

I had the same problem 2 years ago - boat going backward, sideways, etc - and went thru all sorts of machinations trying to correct it using the manual to reset everything, including running the boat in circles. Then I called Nordic Tug and they asked if I had set anything metal next to the compass. I did not even know where it was located. Turns out it was low down in the little side station amidships and I was storing my vacuum cleaner under the bench seat on one side and my tool box on the other. Once removed, all problems cleared up. Good luck with yours.

Anyone have an issue where the compass fails? Today all of a sudden our RL80C plus froze for a moment and then it looked like we were going backwards on the chart. When I went into Compass Setup and tried to align it, the system indicated that no compass was found, and the heading on the autopilot was about 180 degrees off.

I'm assuming this one has died and I just need to replace the sensor. If anyone has had a similar experience with circa 2003-2004 Raymarine electronics, let me know.

Thanks,
