[Sentoa] dinghy size

Doug,

I have an Achilles inflatable - 9 1/2 feet as I recall. It fits fine. It came with my NT 32 along with a Seawise manual hoist. If it wasn't for the fact that the Achilles is already prepped to work with the Seaswise and Weaver davits, I would have preferred a Portland Pudgy. I don't know if you've seen these.

They are not an inflatable - some hard plastic floatable material. They are USCG approved for four persons. What I like about them is that they could double as a life raft (virtually unsinkable), they appear very sturdy and are adequate in size. The disadvantages are that they are a bit heavier than a similar sized inflatable and are limited to a 2 HP outboard (electric or gas). I bought one for use on a slightly smaller boat and then sold the boat and kept the dinghy. Keep vacillating on whether or not it's worth rigging the Pudgy for the Seawise system (which I don't want to give up) or just stay with the Achilles. Will decide this spring after I look at what would be required one more time. Weaver makes two removeable steel pins that allow installation on the swim platform with standard Weaver davits.

If you are in the market for new dinghy, it's worth a look. Try www.portlandpudgy.com

For those of you with a 32' - what's the biggest dingy size that you've found that will fit easily on Weaver Davits on the back swim platform? We are planning to replace our current dingy with something with a hard bottom.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! If you have a dinghy for sale, please let us know that as well.
