Dan,
I agree! It sounds like Bowen is outfitting the Titanic and we know what
happened to that ship.
If I would pick one item to leave off it would be the Single Side Band.
Unless you are crossing oceans it makes no sense for a river, lake or
coastal vessel.

Subject: [Sentoa] Willam Bowen's Note Regarding Electronics for an NT 32
As an owner of an NT 32 for over 15 years my reaction to the e-mail from
William Bowen is one of amazement at the total electronic overkill. My
experience has been that any electronic device will soon be obsolete and
unless money is no object (which is probably the situation in this
case), minimal electronics is the best. While I have a radar (15 years
old) and a Furuno depth sounder/chart plotter (four years old) the fact
is none of these devices are necessary to cruise safely and comfortably
in Pacific Northwest inland waters. They are fun toys that add to the
enjoyment of the trip. They also help with fishing as knowing the depth
and probable existence of fish is helpful.
But, one man's luxuries are another man's essentials and we are all
entitled to proceed as suits our tastes and capability.
Happy Tuggin and Welcome to Mr. Bowen.
