Fellow Tuggers -
Will put this out to all because we've had such good luck with Twin Rivers Marine Insurance, 800.259.5701. They insure many if not most of the tugs in SFBANTA and are a long time sponsor of the SFBANTA Rendezvous. Ask for Bob or Gary. They can provide coverage in many parts of the country. I suspect there are areas of the country where they don't write coverage but I can recommend their agency without any reservation.

Nick,
Guessing the difference might be Washington vs Florida, but Boat US is charging us close to $2000 for only $80k insurance on ours (over 2%). At that, we've been unable to get them to increase the coverage (requested $90k), despite having a good survey and dealer estimate. Good record, no claims (almost for TS Faye, but their deductible jumps to 20% for named storms). I would really like to either reduce our cost, or increase our coverage.

I've had 2 or 3 insurers through the years and now use Boat U.S. They offer unlimted towing (nice!) and cost just under 1% of the purchase price of the boat per year. That is, $200,000 would be a little under $2,000. One problem with changing insurance-coverage, if your boat is a few years old all want a new survey, which can cost a few more dollars.

Subject: [Sentoa] Intro and insurance question
Hello,
Just joined the list a couple of days ago. Linda and I are retired
sailors; we've jointly decided that our offshore cruising days are
behind us, and are making the jump to trawler life. We're not owners
yet, but are in negotiations to purchase a NT32. I expect this deal
will go through, but since I spent a few years as a broker, I'm aware
of the pitfalls ahead and won't count myself as an owner until all the
papers are signed! We'll be sending in our SENTOA membership
application as soon as we're actually owners.
We moved to New Bern, NC from Annapolis and built our retirement home
about four years ago. Love it here and can't wait to be able to visit
many of the gunkholes that we can't get to now. Six feet of draft in
a sailboat is a bit limiting in these parts. Any NT32 in this area?
I've checked with my auto insurance company and swallowed hard when
they gave me a quote for a new NT32. Anyone have insurance
recommendations they'd like to share?
Looking forward to meeting you all...either here or in person.
