Jerry, Doug was correct about the clam shell allowing water to flow
into the chain locker at certain speeds. On the Tranquil tug
approximately 8 inches of water accumulates when cruising at about
1800 rpm's. Unfortunately the bulkhead was not properly sealed when a
water line was installed in the bulkhead between the chain locker and
the thruster cavity. As luck would have it the hole was lower than
the high water mark while cruising at about 1800 rpm's. The result
was a new bow thruster. Peek in your chain locker while underway and
you will see what I mean. I tried different techniques with the clam
shell but the water still flows upstream. Not a problem if the chain
locker is sealed.
