I use a small float charger which I bought from West Marine on my gen set battery. It is a true float charger and; therefore, will keep the battery at full charge but will not damage the battery. I simply clip the float charger onto the battery when at the dock with available a/c electricity. When I take the boat out on the water, I unclip the float charger. This is a very simple solution. In fact, I use these float chargers on all of my yard machines at home which have start battery. Batteries last for a very long time. Most batteries have a self-discharge rate in the area of 1% per day. Therefore, if a battery has been sitting for 30 days, it has self-discharged approximately 25% or more. You need a float charger, not just a heavy duty auto recharger. Those may or may not be a float type charger. Dick Seymour, N/T 42-90, Sea Mischief
