[Sentoa] Mid-Atlantic Cruise

Hello Brian, I have traveled this area quite a bit both directions. The New Jersey shore trip from NYC to Cape May is a full long day. Approximately 120 NM. We do it all the time on deliveries but it can get nasty. The safest alternate harbor along the coast is Atlantic City, this would shorten your trip by about 45 miles.
The Delaware River can be rough in the lower sections, try and carry the current if possible. The run from Cape May to Annapolis is approx. 120NM. You can spend the night in the CD canal or proceed a bit farter into the Chesapeake and anchor in the Bohemia River or many other choices.
Good luck the Chesapeake is a terrific place to cruise

My wife and I will be cruising the Chesapeake Bay this summer.  Our home port is Essex, Ct. and we’re wondering if anyone has any recommendations regarding cruising from Long Island Sound to Cape May, NJ:  1. Is the run from NYC to Cape May a relatively easy one-day trip or must we plan on overnighting midway?  2.  We’re planning on going by way of the outside passage rather than the inland waterway.  Does anyone have any advice here?  3.  We’ve heard the trip up and down the Delaware River is lousy – does anyone have any recommendations re: this trip?

Thanks.  Brian.
