[Sentoa] Rudder Bolts

Thanks again Jim.
I may have to haul to find out what is really happening. I only wish NT
would dig a little deeper and tell me what I should be looking at. I would hate
for the rudder to fall off on the way to the yard.

Ron,
On mine they were not that way. The and rudder and rudder shaft were one
welded assembly. In fact, the rudder shaft that comes up into the boat and the
lower end that goes in to the lower bearing are the same solid steel piece.
All the ring did was ride up against the bottom of the boat and prevent the
assembly from lifting up out of the lower bearing on the skeg. If your rudder
was "loose and flopping around" it sounds like the ring come loose and the
rudder shaft lifted out of the lower bearing. The set screws I refereed to may
have been bolts--if fact, they may have been thru bolts but I didn't think so.
I am not sure. The point is that their purpose was to hold the ring to the
shaft to prevent it from rising out of the lower bearing.

Jim,
The diver was able to get some bolts and nuts into some holes in the ring so
they must go all the way through. I am wondering now if the set screws hold
the rudder to the shaft and nuts and bolts hold that assembly on to the
rudder.
I wish the factory knew more.
Thanks
