In Anacortes I use Interlux Micron CSC, 2 coats with an extra coat around
the "skum" line.
I paint all the metal with Pettit Zinc Coat Barnacle Barrier.
I can get four and if I really need it up to five years before hauling. I
typically haul every three years. The bottom cleans up well with a pressure
wash.
I am a diver so once a year I dive the boat to replace the zincs and
clean/inspect the hull.
If the boat sits for a long time I get some growth but it is removed after
running awhile.

Up here in Oak Harbor, WA. I have a diver clean the bottom every three
months, otherwise the rapid growth plus all the mussels attaching themselves to
the prop and rudder will slow me down significantly. Just before the last
cleaning, I was only able to get the engine up to 2700 rpm's. The day after
cleaning, 3300 rpm's. The load was the same. The divers always tell me the bottom
painted areas will clean up easily with a soft brush, but the mussels are
really tough. The mussels never seem to attach themselves to the painted areas,
so the paint helps a lot from that standpoint. I repaint every 3 years. I last
used Micron paint, but I cannot remember which type.

Subject: [Sentoa] Pac NW Bottom Paint: 1 Coat or 2
We are hauling our 37 next month for bottom paint. We used Micron CSC
Extra last time, but I was really unhappy with the slime growth within a month or
2 of being back in the water. Typically our yard has only used 1 coat of
paint, with a second coat around the waterline. Also, within 18 months, the
growth was substantial and I’m sure I was dragging pretty hard as my WOT speed
was down 2 knots.
The question is, what are other PNW tugs using for bottom paint, how many
coats, and how often are you hauling.
Thanks,
