[Sentoa] Fuel Balance

I agree with Steve. Our NT 37 lists to starboard even after adding
additional weight to the port side. We have the Onan generator on the port side and no
crane or ding on the starboard, but it still lists to starboard. The foot
squiggie takes care of the shower drain problem. Like Steve, we have experienced
any performance problems.

Our NT37, like most, has a slight stbd list. I have a few sandbags in the
port lazarette aft which help, but more are needed. My back is too sensitive
for me to put more in there, but maybe at the next haulout I'll have the
yard do the grunt work.
The question I'm posing now is: why bother? Why take special measures to
correct it? It's just inherent to the boat equipment installation. My theory is
that it has to do with the galley and head, and associated gear and
furniture, being on the stbd side. I doubt if an inverter, by itself (but maybe in
connection with everything else) would be the culprit. Eyeballing it with a
sharp eye, it can't be more than 2 or 3 degrees in my case. You'd have to
have a special set of devices to actually measure it, because you cannot
realistically install a typical inclinometer, which only gives you crude
indications, at absolute dead level.
Obviously, on the 37s, the dink sits on the stbd side on the boat deck.
However, the 37s have a stbd list with nothing up there. Of course the dink and
an electric hoist (we don't have one, but wish we did) would definitely add to
a stbd list.
Maybe the factory has corrected it in the newer models. I keep the backup
beer supply under the port settee, so that helps, right? Yes, I know there is
some theoretical, but arguably minor, issue with handling and fuel
consumption if a hull is out of trim, but I'd like to see anyone produce data on in the
case of the NT37s.
I don't think it affects the way the boat handles or rides to any noticeable
degree (we've owned four large boats). I believe topside weight, on any
boat, is a bigger factor in roll stability than just about anything else.
Visually, admiring lookee-loos (and there are plenty of them....isn't that
great?) on the docks never notice it unless you point it out to them, and I
don't. The only functional consequence seems to be that the shower pan
doesn't drain as well as it should, so we live with that. I don't worry if one
fuel tank is somewhat lower than the other. The relationship between them
remains fairly constant and I keep the crossovers open at all times, except when
re-fueling. In my fevered brain, the fewer fuel connections to worry about on
a boat, the better. That said, JOLIE BLOND's solution is an elegant one for
sure; it's just not for me.

Subject: [Sentoa] Fuel Balance
We own a 2004 37'. The main engine fuel line is connected to the port tank.
There is a crossover from the port to the starboard tank. However, when
running for a period of time, the port tank runs down much faster than the
starboard. Even after leaving the boat sit overnight, there is still a large
difference between the levels in the tanks. Is there anyway to run the main engine
off the starboard tank exclusively? Or at least ensure that the levels remain
balanced?
