Cameron, I too had a small Honda gas gen set on a GB I owned a few years ago. In a box on the flybridge...plugged my shore power cord into it. It had both 12V and 110 outlets built in. Several times I carried it down and out to a building site miles from electricity to run power saws and a drill. Very versatile, and never had a problem with fumes or gas odors. HOWEVER, the best system I have had was a Heart backup. A separate bank of 3 or 4 batteries that delivered 110. I don't think you could run AC for an extended time with it, but it was great for anchoring out and using the microwave, hair dryer, TV and so forth. And while cruising to the next anchorage, recharged itself.
