[Sentoa] value of the original 26' tugs

For what it's worth, we bought and sold a 1984 26' (1992-1995) while NT
was still making new ones. Ours appreciated $7K during that time.
Don't worry - value generally gets rewarded.

Well said, Jim. And thanks for including the link (San Juan Islander)
at the bottom of your post. Fascinating article. Well done!

bottom line: it'll be what it'll be. but i can't help thinking
about the VW "new" beetle. it was created to recapture the appeal of
the original, but was dramatically improved in every technical aspect.
it is an undeniably better car. but it did not impact the appeal of the
original. my opinion is that there will be a divided market for quite a
while: there will be those who are only interested in the new boat
because of its improvements. there will be those who will want the old
boats because of their original appeal and "funk factor". as VW found
out, you can make a better car that looks like the original, but you can
never go home again. i will sell my 71 VW bus when you pry the wheel
from my cold, dead fingers. after the new 26's have been around long
enough to depreciate a bit, their price will eventually approach that of
the originals which will continue to appreciate, in my opinion. a
"margin" will appear between them, which i would guess in today's
dollars will be about $25-30K, which will reflect the value of the newer
components and newer technology. but there will always be those who
consider the original 26 to be the more desirable boat. besides, who
cares about resale value when you are WAY too attached to sell it
anyway?

forget the market. toss a bottle of wine and a frozen pizza on
the tug and let's get outta town for the night!
