Richard -- You're right. I need to find about the impeller.  The  mechanic 
who ended up doing the job is a freelance Cummins guy, so he knows his  way 
around the engine and, after the past few years, my boat.  I'll check  with him.
 
I did shoot the gun at the pipe.  I think it was about 109 degrees  after I 
had been underway for some time.  
 
But, I wasn't joking about being hampered in my measurements by trying to  
avoid a collision at sea.  A trimaran crossed my bow, under sail, just as  the 
alarm was going off.  I had to throttle back and soon the alarm  stopped.  I 
thought it was better not to cleave the sailboat. Nor, later,  when the alarm 
went of again, I thought it was best not to mess with a Moran  tug.  Baltimore 
Harbor is a busy place.
 
Anyway, my next steps are to send a diver down and to find out about the  
impeller.
