So are you looking at two boats, one w/ the 220 (6BT) and one w/ the 270 (6BTA) engine? If so, other parameters would likely drive the buying decision such as the age and condition of the boat. I have a 1999 NT32 w/ the 220 HP engine that I am quite happy with. I cruise at 9+ knots at 1800 RPMs and burn less than 4 Gal/Hr. At 2000 RPMs I go 10+ knots and burn ~ 5 Gal/Hr. Last summer I went on a 400 mile cruise -- mostly at 10 knots -- and burned 198 gallons of fuel. That ~ 2 MPG.

Subject: [Sentoa] 220hp. vs 270hp Cummins
We're getting closer to putting an offer in on a used NT32 but have one question for the group. Knowing what you all know, what would you say are the advantages / disadvantages between the two subject Cummins engines? Is the 270hp the better way to go based on economy, reserve power and strength? or is the 220hp in your opinion the better engine based on economy, history and ease of maintenance. Also, what fuel burn can we expect at a 8-10kt cruise speed with each engine.
Hopefully when this is all said and done, I'm going to be a long time regular contributor with first hand knowledge of 32' Nordics.
All the best and thanks.
