[Sentoa] Cabin roof

Jerry,
I have a picture of the seam in Toot Sweet 32-021 that I'll send to you off
list. If your cabin roof is constructed like ours, the only wood in it is
around the perimeter. The rest of the roof is foam sandwiched between the
cap and underside fiberglass matting and is not subject to rot. It may have
mold, but wouldn't rot. If I were you, I'd call Dan Hilsinger at Nordic Tug
and ask his advice. We had a similar leak problem and he advised us to
simply dry it out, however, we didn't have rot in the wood perimeter. IMHO,
I would cut access holes from below, dig out the rotted portion, and replace
it with an epoxy product as Mike Arnold suggested.
As to how the lid is attached, Toot Sweet's hardtop is secured to the sides
with screws and caulking, as you will see in the picture. If you want to
talk about rotted bulkheads and floor joists, I'm your man.
Good Luck!
Norm

Subject: [Sentoa] Cabin roof
Folks,
i know it is early, only got a few hours on the Water Horse
this short season so far, but talking to my boat guy about
scheduling 08-09 shop time! Gulp!
--
Water Horse has had a rough time in the last 20 or so years.
Cabin top was leaking for a long time, and now the wood between
the outer and inner fiberglass sandwich is rotted, like black crumbly
dust!
--
Boat guy wants to take the roof off (!) to apply a new wood core
and fiberglass ceiling. Has anybody ever heard of this being done?
How is the roof attached to the walls? i have concerns about doing
this big of a job. Maybe we are better off replacing the rotted areas
in smaller pieces from beneath. Any advice? Please?
