[PCW] Air cushion between catamaran hulls

Some semi plaining (semi displacement) commercial boats were built with  
steps to reduce hull surface drag and some of the larger ones had air injection  
at the steps to enhance this concept when the craft was not light enough or 
fast  enough to get up on step. Has this ever been tried on  cats?
