Gary, it sounds like you haven't been on a boat with common rail diesels,
there is almost no smell or soot, next chance you get do yourself a favor and
hitch a ride on one with them, your Yanmars unless they are new, are not
common rail technology. When I said noxious fumes I was doing it tongue in
cheek, diesel has a lot more sulphur dioxide that's why the smell vs. gas, but
again much less with common rail.

Bob, of course with the exhaust hose off, on an older diesel you are going to
have lots of smoke and fumes we are talking about normal operating conditions.
Also where is diesel twice the cost of gas?
