[PCW] Outboards on a cat

I'll echo some of Bob's comments and add on.

The other problem with limited prop size is that single engine running is more speed limited than with a larger prop.

I found even the extra long leg left the power head closer than I'd like to the swells. It's fine when running at speed, but backing in a swell is very nerve racking.

Maintenance - these modern 4 strokes have sophisticated computer control systems that sometimes need expensive diagnostic gear to work on. e.g. self service can be difficult. Most outboard mechanics around here work on trailer boats and won't come to the slip, the ones that do aren't happy about it, charge extra and are impossible to schedule. It is a very tricky balancing act to work on them while the boat is in the water.

I like the idea, but it's not without problems. Perhaps putting them in a (ventilated) well as with some older sailboats.
