In my fresh water experience a hard racing antifouling bottom paint should
work well as was mentioned before. If the bottom already has a sluffing paint
you may have to stick with it or do all the work to take it off. With a hard
racing antifouling you can always apply a soft paint over, but not the other
way around. A soft bottom paint in fresh water in the north works well if the
boat is used frequently. If it sat in a foul slip I may go the other way. If
the boat is trailered I would for sure use the hard paint. Washing the hard
paint is a lot easier.
