Michael,
You have my sincere condolences, I can hardly imagine how we'd have felt if
this had happened to us two years ago. PDQ's demise came as a complete shock
to us, we still feel as though there'd been a recent death in the family!
But unlike you, we've at least got a boat - one which we are very fond of,
incidentally.
My thoughts are that you should seriously consider a used PDQ 34. There are
several out there right now in excellent condition. Actually, there are
very few differences between a 2007 (or '08) model and a 2006 model. If you
go
with a hull number above #79, you will have everything (including new galley
and overhead panel) except for the new-style aft cabin windows - which, IMHO
are a dubious asset anyway.
Several of these boats have lots of extra equipment and represent excellent
buys. And, having gone through the shakedown period, they may actually be
more reliable than a brand new boat. (For more info, contact Beth Simkins or
Dick Tuschick at RYS - 866-520-7597 - or check the YachtWorld listings.)
Also,
feel free to e-mail me off-list: HClews at aol.com.
The DSe hybrid looks intriguing, but it will be a while before it has the
reliability of a PDQ. There's no substitute for large volume production.
Boats are such complicated beasts - the DSe in particular. Realistically,
one
must expect the early models to be development prototypes. As I said in my
recent post, you must be prepared to be a pioneer. If you're willing to
accept
that, fine, but if you want a boat you can hop aboard right now and
confidently head for the Bahamas with a minimum hassles, the PDQ (or perhaps
an
Endeavour) is your best bet. Just my 2 cents.
