That's  sage advice. Hard won I'm sure!
 
Also a  great topic as you said and just one of many we'll be investigating  
while planning our cruise to Alaska via Hawaii. T-Pec formation as you  
describe is easy to comprehend, looking at a topo map. 
 
Question  - Where would you jump off if going to Hawaii from the Canal?
