scott - " Drilled primary Anchor to accept retaining pin for bow pulpit"
Ron suggested: Bad idea. In a storm or collision, pin can get bent rendering
anchor inoperable.
Scott retorts: Respectfully disagree, if this pin bends I have much, much
bigger problems to contemplate. The hole is oversized, it would have to
bend 25 degrees to become frozen in place. Coming up the coast last year
the anchor almost launched itself off the pulpit as we neared Pt.
Conception. Mike secured it in place with the windless, a practice
necessary for our situation, but not one that should be routinely
implemented. The pin is over an inch in diameter, the bending forces
required would be enormous, as I said, in a situation bad enough to bend the
pin I'd already be up s*&t creek and kissing my ass goodbye.
Ron asked: BTW, did upgrading to NAVNET 2 mean trading unit in a swap-out
or are NAVNET
1 units upgradeable?
Scott shares: The Furuno Navnet1 units are NOT upgradable. It was a
hardware replacement. The ROI was twofold. First by moving to the Navnet
2 I could use the CMAP Max Wide chips, saving thousands on cartagrophy for
my trip. Second I got a much faster processor and much better display. If
I'm able to sell the Furuno unit I removed I'll have an out of pocket cost
of about $1,000. A reasonable upgrade in my opinion.
