Remarks:
Great day, went up to within 0.9 nm, 1.6 km from the Canadian border. The
Grand Pacific Glacier can be seen snaking along for miles back, but it is
all covered with gravel near the sea. The Margerie Glacier is just to the
left and it has mostly nice white ice and breaks off into the sea. The
"Diamond Princess" cruise ship passed us on the way in, and again on the way
out. It is 1,200-feet long and stayed a bit farther from the glacier than
us.
Started out south, but stopped in Beartrack Bay on the way out of Glacier
Bay to visit with Dan Green and friends in a 52' Nordic Tug. Dan had been
following our trip and contacted us some time ago so we got together for a
lovely visit.
At 23:00 we unrafted and went to fetch Sitka. We didn't anchor there
because we go through Peril Strait which is challenging and only a daylight
trip for us.
Fantastic scenery.
