GL: Lightning woe

That's all well and good.  I live in what is reputed to be the lightning
capital of the world.  I believe it.  When we had sailboats we would hang a
jumper cable off one of the stays into the water.  My theory was that it
wouldn't dissipate a lightning strike but rather would slowly dissipate a
static charge making the boat less likely to be struck.

My neighbor in the next slip took a direct hit on his mast.  I suffered $6000
in collateral damage, most likely caused by a surge entering my boat through
the shore power cord.  What ya gonna do?
