Gilmerton Bridge to have restricted weekend operations











Scheduled maintenance to the fendering system of the Gilmerton Bridge at ICW
Mile 5.8 will cause delays for southbound cruisers over coming weekends.

The following restrictions have been announced:

>From 7 a.m. Oct. 30, 2009 through 7 a.m. Nov. 2, 2009

>From 7 a.m. Nov. 6, 2009 through 7 a.m. Nov. 9, 2009

>From 7 a.m. Nov. 13, 2009 through 7 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009

During those times openings are scheduled every two hours, however, vessels
MUST provide a two-hour notice. At all other times the bridge will operate on
its normal schedule:

Monday through Friday, except federal holidays, year-round: Closed 6:30 a.m.
to 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Otherwise, the bridge opens on
request.

Built in 1938, the Gilmerton Bridge has a closed vertical clearance of 11
feet.
