GL: Running the Delaware Bay

We finished the Delaware today with a nice following current (Cape May Canal
was the worst part of the trip with all the Sunday boat traffic. Eventually
we'll learn not to travel on weekends.)
We went into the Cohansey around low tide and saw at least 9 ft (most of the
river was 20ft+). That should be more than enough for most cruising sail
boats. Deep water is not an issue.
Cohansey appears to be the best, but there appear to be a few other rivers you
could sneak into if you are reasonably shallow draft. The north section has
other options.
I think the Chesapeake is just as bad. When we left Deltaville and crossed the
Potomic and Point Lookout, we were 15-20 miles to a deep water harbor. So I
don't see where it is significantly worse on the Delaware. If you are on the
southern part of the Chesapeake and crossing from one side to the other it can
easily be a 30 mile run, which is about the same as splitting the Delaware Bay
in half.
While it isn't the greatest cruising ground, I don't understand why cruisers
seem to outright dislike it.

snip:
Problem is, unlike the Chesapeake Bay, there are very few places to put in,
and none for a deeper draft boat between Chesapeake City or Delaware City and
Cape May. One must check the weather carefully.
