Coral,

The easiest way to create a compass deviation chart for your boat is  
to use a good GPS and put your boat in a shallow bay where you can  
swing it in a circle with one or two persons at the bow and one or  
two persons at the stern.  Have someone watch the compass every 5  
degrees and mark the GPS heading.  Do it a couple of times for accuracy.
