GL: Dock Hands

Boats generally come into the dock nose first, and the bow line is the
first one to be tossed to the dock hands. They then immediately pull the
line tight at the bow and cleat it, leaving the back of the boat swinging
in the breeze.

My Admiral has strict instructions to completely ignore the dock hands,
until i give her a signal to throw. Works real nice too, she looks at me
and ignores the dock hands yelling at her to throw the lines. When the
dock hands yell too persistently, she points to me, then goes back to
ignoring them.

These days, I mostly single-hand, so I have the double job of docking the
boat and ignoring the dock hands. The only line I ever throw them is the
one attached to the midships cleat. And the moment it is made fast, I jump
off and tend to the rest myself. I always re-cleat all lines myself. This
way, I know I'm not going for a drift at 4 AM.

Best wishes,

Fred
