In answer to question - "What is a soda machine?" It is a neat machine that
carbonates plain water and then you add syrup of any number of colas, tonics,
fruit drinks, etc. and don't have to store soda cans or bottles on board and
can make it on demand.
We heard about it from some other cruisers in the Bahamas this winter and had
planned to get one when we returned. We just lucked out on the price at
Boater's World store closing because they are around a hundred dollars.
The machine works without electricity or batteries, just the pressure from the
CO2 bottle. Here is a website on the actual machine and the syrups you can
purchase. I love Diet Coke and I found the Diet Cola just equal to the real
stuff. My husband likes diet tonic water for his Vodka and Tonics - we
haven't tried that yet - but the boaters who told us about it claimed that
that was what they bought it for. They claimed that the regular and diet
tonic water syrups worked great for them.
You chill a bottle of water, put it in the machine and carbonate it, then add
small amount of syrup and it is ready to go. Makes up in one liter bottles.
It works great when you are anchoring out a lot in locations where you cannot
find a grocery.

You do have to store the machine on board, along with the extra CO2 bottles
and the one liter bottles, along with some syrup, but if you calculated the
space for all the sodas that it would make, the space is much less.
By the way, I am not affiliated with soda club.
Happy cruising, Penny
