Ken, Spent the entire summer on the Erie Canal and whole heartily
agree with Dick and Carol. The Wineries are the best part of the
land side except for some of the water falls. The lakes are like
nothing else. Had the clearest water short of some of south
Florida. I could not believe. The bridge clearances are not that
much of a problem. I figured for 15 feet and only have to watch the
pool height which the lockmasters can give you. The tie ups (above
the locks) are great. Having bikes worked very well for seeing the
various towns. Watch out for canoe races around Lock 20, they can
give a 20 ton trawler a pretty good wake at the starting line(on the
seawall)!!! Lock 20 was very enjoyable. But the Whole Canal is worth
the time. I came off the Chesapeake and the Canal is just as
enjoyable. Fair winds and big blocks... G
