What version of Windoze were you using when you removed the virus in DOS
?
Windows 2000, XP and VISTA use the NTFS file system which is not
accessible from DOS. If you boot to DOS you cannot access the files on
the hard drive.

Avast! has a feature that usually can help when others fail. There is an
option to run Avast! upon boot. It runs in DOS before the OS loads.
Usually, viruses that cannot be completely removed with the OS loaded
can be removed at the DOS level. The one time that I had a virus
infection, Avast! found it in two places on my HD and removed both
copies. With the OS up, it would only clean one copy. Upon boot, the
remaining copy would replicate itself and cleverly hide it far away from
the other copy. This was my experience with a Trojan Horse one year ago.
Avast! is available free for home use at www.avast.com .

I had to reformat hard drive to remove the infection received from
access the site... I own a product from them. Whether from the site or
not after the access all stopped on PC. Online geek help spent 8 hours
trying to remove infection prior to the reformat and all software
reinstall. My prior antivirus was a "trend" subscription with daily
updates and scan. I am now using CA hopefully for better results. Joe

Same with me except I was allowed to sever connection with the website.
Exchanged emails with the owner and he told me that his host and ISP
were very secure. I have their book and would like to visit their
website, but will no longer try to do so. Has anybody with a different
virus checker had a different experience. One thing I like about Avast!
is that they update up to 4 times a day!
