GL: Charts Again

Chart Question:

As has been stated before, NOAA provides free charts for US. The link is
listed below for the RNC charts. You can get other versions. I use
Nobletec on a laptop and load all the charts I need for free. Nice for
planning. Much cheaper than the Northstar or Ray Marine System I have used
in the past. As I purchased the northstar and ray marine chart chips I do
still use them but if the NOAA charts had been free prior purchasing others
I would not have done so. I note on the NOAA site there is a viewer you can
use. I do not know if that is satisfactory for nav use. I just install the
NOAA charts in my laptop Nobeltec software and I'm good to go.

Run a chart program on a computer (laptop or desktop), get the charts
for the US free online, and pay for the foreign charts you actually
need! Don't have a URL to provide which discusses alternatives to
proprietary software from Garmin, etc, but I'm sure there are many out
there.
