hello fellow cruisers,
we have developed a keen interest in cruising the Cay Sal Banks of the
Bahamas. however, we have been unable to gather much in the way of info on the
area. this could be a wonderful addition to the normal Loop route, or a
wonderful weekend trip only 60 miles off the keys.
our concerns include the following points
1. chart/guide accuracy and detail.
2, level of protection in anchorages.
3. safety and comunications.
4, Bahaman patrols
any help or info on these issues would be happily received
also, perhaps now is a good time for a grass roots effort on the part of the
cruising world to encourage the Bahaman government to come up with a way for
us cruisers to get our cruise/fishing permits via mail prior
to departure, thereby eliminating a need to check in immediately. the idea
of a cruise from lower keys to Cay Sal and beyond without the long haul up to
Bimini is mighty inviting. perhaps someone knows who in the Bahaman
government we should be writing to encourage such a policy to boost their slipping
tourism dollars. would love to hear some constructive talk on these issues.
