GL: Anchoring near NYC

Another good option is Atlantic Highlands, NJ, with the fast ferry 
service directly into NYC. There is a protected anchorage/mooring field 
within the breakwater, as well as a marina. My wife and friends have 
even driven to Atlantic Highlands (from Washington DC area) and parked 
there, then took the ferry into NYC for a few days rather than driving 
into NYC itself. As I recall, it's no more than 30 minutes on the ferry 
to get to the major East River terminals.
