It's 48 degrees today up here in the frozen wilds of Fort Edward on the
Champlain Canal. Just took a lovely car cruise down to Waterford to Don &
Paul's ... my favorite breakfast spot. Two eggs, toast and coffee for $
1.75 Add home fries and bacon and it's $ 4.98. How can ya beat that?
We still have about a foot of snow in my yard but it's melting fast. Ten
miles south, past Schuylerville, the snow is mostly gone. 20 miles
northwest of me, there's still 15 feet of snow in the mountains but that's
melting too. The melt water is starting to fill the canalized parts of the
riverbed with very muddy water. There was heavy rain last nite which
washed most of the salt and sand off the roads, leaving everything clean.
There is a definite feeling of spring in the air, and it's starting to look
like summer might not have been cancelled after all!
My cats have been feeling it for the last week or so, there has been all
sorts of high speed running up & down the hallway. When they go outside
they stay out there a long time now. Bear is happy that he soon will not
have to break through the snow to the mouse tunnels to catch the little
snacks. Puddy is now towing her rope all over the house, every hour or so,
howling at it as she goes. She's going to be a tugboat when she grows up.
It's odd how people and cats all get used to living with 6 feet of snow.
Today I was driving with my car window open in 48 degrees, enjoying the
warm sunny day. Puddy, a short-hair cat, has grown a fur mane on her chest
which she never had before.
Today, I saw a number of people walking down the road in shorts. The
feeling of cabin-fever is suddenly gone and everyone is looking forward to
summer and talking about boating.
Oh, and it's going to snow tomorrow.
