GL: Fenders

We discarded our fender boards long ago on the Erie Canal and opted for a
system of fenders. We use the largest round fenders we could find and place
them at the bow and the stern of the BandB with large cylindrical fenders
hung vertically in between, as needed. In 2005, I made fender covers for the
cylindrical fenders with fabric from SailRite called "BoatBlanket."
Sailrite sells a BoatBlanket Protection Kit with instructions and all the
necessary material to make four fender covers.

Making them was simple - cut the fabric to fit the fender, sew a few darts
and sew a strip of hook Velcro on one edge of the material. Any sewing
machine can do the work. The fabric is tough and the covers do not slip off
the fenders. The fender covers have lasted through all the locks in the loop
and kept us off many questionable docks and walls, all the while keeping our
fenders clean. The fender covers are still in terrific shape. The fabric
absorbs all the dirt, grim and slime from some of the worst locks and then
all you have to do is rinse the covers with a hose to clean them.

I also covered the "dashboard" of the BandB with "BoatBlanket" to cut the
glare of the sun. It works very well.
