Rich,
Several states like Rhode Island don't charge sales tax and provide a
registration nice and cheap. They will even print your out-of-state
address on that Rhode Island registration and mail your renewals there.
Just remember, that once you bring your RI registered boat home to another
state, after 90 days you will be required to register it there .. AND then
pay the sales tax.
Be prepared to save marina receipts and other proofs of location showing
that you were never in any state other than RI for more than 90 consecutive
days, and save those receipts forever.
