Hi Sue,
Unfortunately, at Liberty Landing, the holding is poor and the bottom foul.
We used to anchor there but then dragged one day when the wind piped up to
20-25 from the SE We were about to depart when we hooked something solid, so
we stayed. Next morning we heaved anchor to find we had snagged an old
electric cable!
Since then we have stayed at 79th St on the outside of the wave wall (have a
lot of fenders!) but probably wouldn't repeat that. 30 bucks for a ball in
NYC is not a bad deal!
Now our preference is to stop at Atlantic Highlands and anchor behind the
breakwall. It's easy to reach Haverstraw next day before dark. Another day to
Catskill and go right up the creek to Hop-O-Nose to get the mast down. Be sure
to call ahead as they are quite busy. Also, don't go on Monday or you'll
miss eating at the Creekside restaurant. Leave there next morning and it's an
easy day to Waterford. We go north to Champlain and usually tie to the wall at
Mechanicville before dark and Whitehall the next.
Regards,
John
