Fred,

I may be wrong but I suspect that establishing a NYS residence makes  
you liable to NYS income and inheritance taxes, among the highest in  
the nation. The NYS income tax authorities are very diligent about  
collecting these taxes. If you have any income at all it may be too  
high a price for escaping sales taxes unless you own the QE 2.

No problem for you since you are already subject to NYS taxes but  
before a live aboard moves to NY, it would be wise to consult with a  
tax specialist.
