Others may have better ideas, but if I were in the Mid-Hudson
(Kingston/Saugerties - The Rondout Creek, Esopus Creek) I would call Nick
Roberti Marine, and ask for suggestions/recommendations. Nicky knows
everybody in the area, and he's been there a long time. Tell him what you
need, and he'll be able to recommend somebody. When you call, talk to
either Nick, himself, or Mike Falice, who works there. The contact phone
there is 845-336-8111. If you plan to go Nick's store, it's north of
Kingston on Rt 32, about 4 miles or so. It's also up hill in every
direction; ie, not walkable and an advanced, tough bike ride.
In the area, you could stay at Rondout Yacht Basin or Kingston City Marina
on the Rondout Creek in Kingston or the Saugerties Marina on the Esopus
creek at Saugerties. In Kingston, the Kingston City Marina in on the same
side of the creek as restaurants and the Rondout area of the old city of
Kingston, with a small but neat maritime museum. On the other side of the
creek is the Rondout Yacht Basin, which has more amenities, but a long way
without a car to get anywhere else. City Marina contact number is
845-331-6940. Rondout Yacht Basin contact number is 845-331-7061.
Saugerties Marina contact number is 845-246-7533. We have stayed at Rondout
and Kgn City. Both are fine, but because of the proximity to restaurants
and town, we prefer Kgn City.
I would also suggest that if you rent a car, Kingston is a good place to be
to see the area. 20 miles south to Hyde Park and Poughkeepsie, 15 miles to
Woodstock and Overlook Mountain, and an easy trip up to Saugerties and
Catskill for a glimpse into the history of the area.
Hope this is useful.
